Do you need PS Plus to participate in the Battlefield 2042 beta? As an online service game, Battlefield 2042 would ostensibly require players to pay for the online multiplayer service that corresponds to their platform of choice — whether that's PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold. In good news for PlayStation players — and decidedly more mixed news for Xbox players — that's not always the case.

Do You Need PS Plus for the Battlefield 2042 Beta?

PlayStation players rejoice: You don't need a PlayStation Plus membership to participate in the Battlefield 2042 open beta. That info comes courtesy of an official EA FAQ about Battlefield 2042. For this one brief, shining moment, PlayStation players finally join PC players in enjoying online multiplayer without an extra fee attached.

On Xbox, meanwhile, players will need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to get into the beta. The FAQ doesn't include an explanation for the disparity.

Can You Play Battlefield 2042 Offline?

Unfortunately, Battlefield 2042's beta can only be played online. It only includes the game's multiplayer, which requires an internet connection to play.

The Battlefield 2042 beta runs Oct. 6-7 for anyone who pre-ordered Battlefield 2042 or has an EA Play subscription, and Oct. 8-9 for everyone else.
