Does Dying Light 2 Stay Human have guns?

Considering there are said to be over 200 weapons available in the game, as well as the fact that the original Dying Light had firearms, one would assume that guns would be up for grabs. Here's a breakdown of whether or not Dying Light 2 Stay Human has guns.

Does Dying Light 2 Have Guns?

The fact of the matter is, unlike the original, there is just one gun in Dying Light 2: the craftable "Broomstick" makeshift shotgun.

However, not only is it not that effective, but it's also really only to be had late in the game and used as a piece of equipment rather than a typical weapon. Other than that, guns are only seen in the hands of NPCs.

Both from a story standpoint and a gameplay standpoint, it seems there were plenty of reasons Techland decided to go this route.

One is that according to lead designer Tymon Smektała, the viral outbreak in Dying Light 2 destroyed civilization and resulted in no skilled people being around to craft the advanced weaponry. Additionally, the military somehow confiscated just about every firearm before abandoning the city.

Perhaps the main reason why there aren't guns in Dying Light 2, however, is so that players focus on stealth, up-close and personal combat, and parkour.

Dying Light 2 is intended to be a more tense experience overall, and although ranged weapons like bows are still present, their slow reload times and pedestrian fire rates make them much risker options than guns would be.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available now for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store and the Techland Store).
