NPD Retracts Statement Regarding Elden Ring as a Top 10 Best-Selling-Game of All-Time

Elden Ring's five months on the market have seen it join the 10 best-selling games of all time in the U.S., the NPD Group reports.

Per the group's June 2022 report, Elden Ring was the best-selling game of the month, and retained the top spot as the best-selling game of the year so far. The month also saw FromSoftware's open world action adventure become one of the 10 best-selling premium games in terms of dollar sales — though NPD didn't share the full top 10 list, making it unclear where Elden Ring ranks.

Elden Ring has topped the dollar sales charts every month since its release with one exception. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga briefly bumped it from that number one position in April, but otherwise it's been the Elden Ring show since February. The game is projected to be the best-selling game of the year, outpacing Modern Warfare 2, which is slated for launch in October.

Other highlights from the NPD report: Overwatch returned to the monthly sales chart for the first time since October 2019, reaching the number five position thanks to the Overwatch 2 beta that began June 28; and a promotional event for its 25th anniversary pushed Final Fantasy VII: Remake to ninth place after a 159th place finish in May.

On the hardware front, though the Switch outsold the PlayStation 5 in terms of units shifted, the latter console made more money. It also saw its dollar sales grow by a double-digit percentage in June, year-over-year.
