Epic Games weakened the aim assist Fortnite controller players enjoyed on PC in an undocumented patch released Thursday.

Fortnite data miner HypeX observed changes in the following values, indicating weakened aim assist both when hip firing and aiming-down-sights:

  • PullInnerStrengthHip -> from 0.6 to 0.45
  • PullOuterStrengthHip -> from 0.5 to 0.38
  • PullInnerStrengthAds -> from 0.7 to 0.52
  • PullOuterStrengthAds -> from 0.4 to 0.3

These adjustments only affect players using controllers on PC, leaving console aim assist unaffected.

The changes come after weeks of complaints from PC players claiming controller users on the platform enjoyed a competitive advantage because of the strength of the aim assist. Prominent members of the Fortnite community, including Tyler "Ninja" Blevins and Turner "Tfue" Tenney, added their voices to those calling for change.

Recent tournament results filled primarily with controller players seemed to support the need for balance adjustments.

Epic Games has not officially confirmed the changes.
