ESPN Announces Apex Legends X Games Invitational
ESPN revealed 18 teams will compete for a $150,000 prize pool. Fifteen teams will be directly invited while the final three will come from qualifiers. Online qualifiers will be held in North America, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand starting June 29.
One team from each qualifier will make it to the X Games event rounding out the field.
The EXP Invitational will be broadcast on multiple platforms while a tape-delayed show will air Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2 recapping the event.
This is the sixth time since 2014 an X Games event has played host to an esports tournament. Previously, in conjunction with MLG, X Games hosted Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Halo 5: Guardians and Call of Duty tournaments. Said tournaments offered X Games medals as an additional prize, but it's unsure whether or not the EXP Invitational will do so.
