Could the long-awaited Fallout: New Vegas 2 finally be on its way? A new report seems to think so.

Many rumors and fan wishes have been floating around ever since Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian Entertainment in 2018. The studio has been responsible for some of gaming's most well-rounded RPGs, including the likes of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and The Outer Worlds.

Having given the world Fallout: New Vegas back in 2010, a sequel has taken up residency on the wishlists of many fans. During an episode of Giant Bomb show Grubbsnax, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb claimed that discussions have happened between Obsidian and Microsoft.

As transcribed by VGC, Grubb said, "This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and those words are ‘Obsidian’ and ‘New Vegas 2’.”

Grubb followed up by saying that such a reveal could be "years and years away," so it's best not to get too hyped up just yet.

Obsidian have a number of projects in the works currently, not least of all the brand new IP "Avowed." While a release date has yet to be announced for the new RPG, the game is set to be a PC and Xbox Series X|S exclusive. Aside from that, the follow-up to The Outer Worlds is also in the works.

As for Fallout: New Vegas 2, the interest is certainly there. Acting as a spin-off to the main Fallout series, New Vegas took us to the region surrounding Las Vegas, discovering the territories contained within the Mojave Wastelands. Whether this new entry will see us return to the region, or somewhere brand new, is anyone's guess right now.
