Final Fantasy XVI, the next entry into the long-standing franchise, has been given its release date.
Last night, Square Enix announced during The Game Awards 2022 that Final Fantasy XVI will launch on June 22, 2023. Producer Naoki Yoshida took to the stage to reveal a new game trailer titled “REVENGE."
Alongside the release date, it was revealed that players will be able to pre-order the Final Fantasy XVI Standard and Deluxe Editions on the Square Enix Store, with the Collector’s Edition pre-orders beginning on Monday, Dec.12.
Like the entries that came before it, Final Fantasy XVI is a standalone story though it features familiar elements that fans of the series will recognize. The summoned beasts, known as Eikons here, reappear, including Ifrit and Shiva.
According to the game's official description, "this is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon known as Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake."
Final Fantasy XVI will release on June 22, 2023 for the PlayStation 5.
