Gameplay for the upcoming Senua's Saga: Hellblade II has been shown for the first time at The Game Awards 2021.
Having been first announced at The Game Awards back in 2019, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is the follow-up to Ninja Theory's 2017 release Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. The game was praised for its sound design and direction, as well as the performance of Senua by Melina Juergens.
At this year's ceremony, six minutes of gameplay of the upcoming sequel shows Senua leading an army through a dark, rocky beach area. During the trailer, we can see that psychosis will still play a part, as it did in the first game. Senua hears voices as she navigates the terrain along with experiencing vivid hallucinations. The atmosphere created in the trailer alone is quite striking, though it carries a very cinematic feel.
The gameplay trailer culminates with Senua and her forces in a desperate attempt to push back an approaching, crawling giant. After swatting away many of her comrades, the creature is left face to face with Senua.
No release date has been confirmed for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, however the game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will be available on Game Pass. The game will also be utilizing Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5, so we can expect some amazing visuals as evidenced by the trailer.
