Fortnite Breaks Twitch Concurrent Viewer Record with The Device Event

Fortnite pulled in 2.3 million concurrent viewers across Twitch on Monday, when its The Device in-game event reclaimed the concurrent viewer record for the battle royale.
League of Legends held the record prior to Fortnite's The Device event with 1.7 million concurrent viewers for its last World Championship event. Before that, Fortnite held the record with 1.7 million viewers for its 2019 Black Hole event.
We were overwhelmed by the response to The Device. At 12M players in-game, we capped participation for stability while 8.4M more watched live on Twitch + YouTube. As we push the edge of what live-events can be, we’re improving systems so more of you can experience them in-game. pic.twitter.com/YTycsB1Zoh

The Device signaled the end of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 after several delays that likely added to the anticipation around the event.
It was also the first Fortnite event to enforce a strict in-game player capacity limit. Epic Games said it reached its player limit in a single minute, pushing potential in-game viewers onto other platforms.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 begins Wednesday. Epic Games has published several teasers for the new season since Monday.
