Fortnite lightsabers have arrived in the game as part of the Star Wars in-game event. The laser swords are every bit as deadly in Fortnite as they are in the films. Here's what you need to know.

Fortnite Lightsabers: Star Wars Event Adds Lightsabers

Fortnite's Star Wars event featured the debut of an exclusive clip from the upcoming "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" film. Players arrived in servers to see the Millenium Falcon flying in with TIE Fighters on its tail. A dogfight ensued, after which the Falcon landed to reveal the film's director, J.J. Abrams, and a character voiced by Geoff Keighley. They introduced the clip, which then played.

After the clip, TIE Fighters started attacking the players before Emperor Palpatine spoke a brief message to the players proclaiming the return of the Sith.

Finally things died down, and players were able to loot a box that provided them with the lightsaber of their chosen color. The lightsabers appear to work similarly to the Infinity Blade, dealing impressive damage at close range.

Further details — such as lightsaber availability outside of the event — aren't immediately clear.
