Fortnite Mobile Gets Age Restrictions, Removes V-Bucks Purchasing

Epic Games

Fortnite players on iOS and Android devices are about to be hit with some extra restrictions, after Epic Games announced that certain versions of the game be made 18+.

In a tweet posted yesterday, Jan. 23, Epic Games announced via their FortniteStatus account that players using the August 2020 13.40 app build of Fortnite, previously available on iOS, Mac, and Google Play, will no longer be able to spend V-Bucks. Additionally, users will need to be over 18 years old to play.

The new restrictions are set to come into effect from Jan. 30. According to Epic Games, the decision is due to the studio wanting all versions of Fortnite to use the current suite of Epic Online Services including parental controls, purchasing defaults, and parental verification features.

Notably, Fortnite has not been updated on iOS, Android or Google mobile devices due to the game's removal from the respected storefronts following legal disputes. The game has remained unchanged on mobile devices since Aug. 2020.

"We are not able to update the app on these platforms given Apple and Google’s restrictions on Fortnite," the tweet said.

Mobile players have had a rough time of it in Fortnite, having missed out on two years worth of content. Now, players will be locked out of even more content without the ability to purchase/spend V-Bucks plus the added age restrictions.
