Gengar Pokemon GO is one of the most wanted Pokemon in the game right now.

The Pokemon GO team have announced a raid day event featuring just Gengar and Nidorino. Gengar, being one of the most prominent ghost-types in the game, now finally has a chance in the spotlight. Both Pokemon will be wearing fancy new party hats to commemorate the occasion as part of the Pokemon Day event. Novice and experienced trainers alike should be figuring out how to catch them and celebrate bringing the franchise back to the very beginning.

Now is the perfect time to bring Gengar to a loving home near you—especially since those caught today will have a moveset of Lick and Psychic.

Gengar Pokemon GO: How to Catch

The raid event will be running today, Mar. 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in your neighborhood. Gengar can be found in raids all over your local area. In order to catch it, you'll have to bring it down with your team and possibly some help from your friends. It will specifically appear in four-star raids. Whether you believe you can take that down on your own is up to your discretion.

Counters for Gengar are pretty simple to figure out with its poison-type mix. A list of the best Pokemon to pit against it can be found here. [link counter article]

Fortunately, for those can't attend the raids, there is still a way to acquire a Gengar. This Pokemon and its evolutionary chain appear after the sun goes down. Sticking around long enough after that may net you some Ghastly encounters—and we don't mean the ghoulish kind. Ghastly can evolve into Haunter with 25 candies and then into Gengar via trading or an extra 100 candies.

Hopefully, this won't be too much of a haunting experience for up-and-coming trainers.

The Pokemon Day celebration event ends on Mar. 2.
