Genshin Impact price increase took many players in India, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and South Africa by surprise. The price hike varies by region, but they increased a significant amount.

This comes after Apple increased App Store prices in these regions to accommodate for foreign transaction fees and taxes. According to Apple, India will face a new equalization levy of 2% in addition to the existing goods and services tax of 18%. Indonesia faces an even greater 10% tax for developers outside of the country.

Genshn Impact developer miHoYo raised the prices of Genesis Crystal Top-Ups and the Blessing of the Welkin Moon pass in those regions on all platforms to reflect the new Apple price increase.

Players in these regions are not happy. A thread on r/ Genshin_Impact is rife with player complaints. The price hike makes it so that the many of the Top-Ups are prohibitively expensive for players in the affected regions, especially those who only make minimum wage. U/Arkroth saw a 12.5% increase on PC and Android. Many of the regions affected do not have dedicated servers or customer service, so they're being charged more for less.

There's a few solutions to this issue. If you have a VPN, you could log-in to another server like the United States and take advantage of better exchange rates. The other is to simply not purchase anything from the otherwise free-to-play game. From our experience, the game is generous with giving Wishes, though it's up to your luck if those Wishes amount to anything good.

Games are, after all, a luxury good. The surprise price hike is definitely a bad beat for players who were holding out to purchase Crystals, but it's totally unnecessary to actually play the game. Needless to say, don't buy anything superfluous if you're strapped for cash.
