The player count for Battlefield 2042 is going to be a big point of contention ever since Warzone raised the game to 150. Battle royales were at different spots for a while with the player count being different for each game. PUBG set the bar at 100 players and Fortnite followed suit. Apex Legends came out after both and went with a different direction of 60 players.
Battlefield was always the big-team-battle of shooters, putting large groups of players against each other, but battle royales changed that.
Games like Battlefield had to adapt and DICE is doing so for the next iteration. Revealed during a livestream, Battlefield will do quite a few things differently.
How Many Players Can Play in Battlefield 2042?
Firstly, Battlefield 2042 will have 128 players on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. If you plan on playing on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One X, you'll be capped at 64 players. That's saying a lot as both older consoles do rather well. DICE is trying to push the bars of development and things like a unique and powerful weather system probably can't be handled on older generations of consoles.
