Here is a guide to help you defeat Arlo, one of Team GO Rocket's gym leaders, in April 2021. It's an eventful month for him, with his boss obtaining Shadow Zapdos and whatnot, but while Giovanni takes care of that Pokémon, here is how to defeat one of his henchmen.

Round 1

Arlo will start off the first round with Beldum, who can be countered by:

  • Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Gengar with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat

Round 2

Congratulations, you have moved on to the second round! There are three possible opponents, and they (and their counters) are:

Aggron

  • Conkeldurr with Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Landorus (Therian) with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Lucario with Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch

Gardevoire

  • Chandelure with Hex and Shadow Ball
  • Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Head
  • Giratina (Origin) with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash

Infernape

  • Landorus (Therian) with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Latios with Zen Headbutt and Psychic
  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psystrike
  • Moltres with Wing Attack and Sky Attack

Round 3

You're really close, but watch out for these three Pokemons with the following counters:

Armaldo

  • Kingler with Bubble and Crabhammer
  • Kyogre with Waterfall and Surf
  • Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash
  • Rampardos with Smack Down and Rock Slide

Salamence

  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Glaceon with Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche

Scizor

  • Blaziken with Counter and Blaze Kick
  • Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat

And while this may not work every single time, it's okay to take a breather and heal up after the encounters. Stay safe while playing the game, and if you're curious about how to defeat Sierra or Giovanni we have guides on those as well.
