As part of the Pokemon GO August Raid events, players have a chance to face off against the legendary Palkia between Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. to Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. local time.

For many players, this Sinnoh-region Pokemon will prove to be a fair challenge. Those who wish to walk away from this encounter with their dignity intact will need to be strategic and bring their strongest Pokemon to the field. We've prepared some handy tips to help improve the chances of a successful raid.

Which Pokemon Are Best to Use Against Palkia?

Palkia is a Water- and Dragon-type Pokemon, meaning that players will need to have a strong roster of Dragon- and Fairy-type Pokemon to take advantage of Palkia's weakness. We recommend including Pokemon who have a Dragon- or Fairy-type Fast Attack and Charged Attack to really deal some damage.

With that in mind, here are a few Pokemon that can help get the job done. First off, we have the Dragon-type Pokemon:

• Dragonite / Shadow Dragonite (Dragon/Flying)
• Salamence / Shadow Salamence (Dragon/Flying)
• Latios (Dragon/Psychic)
• Rayquaza (Dragon/Flying)
• Dialga (Dragon/Steel)

• Zekrom (Dragon/Electric)

Mix up your roster with these Fairy-type Pokemon to increase your chance of success:

Expect Palkia to attack with Water- and Dragon-type moves. Both of Palkia's Fast Attack moves are Dragon-type, with its Charged Attack being one of four options. Two of Palkia's Charged Attacks are Water-type (Aqua Tail and Hydro Pump), which Dragon-type Pokemon should be able to withstand. Players should watch out for Palkia's Draco Meteor Charged Attack, which will deal some hefty damage to Dragon-types.
