Generation II's fire-type, Magmar, was among the handful of Pokemon to gain a new evolution with the release of Generation IV in the Sinnoh region. The new form, Magmortar, is often paired with Electivire —to the point that Niantic Labs themed an entire event in Pokemon GO around the two. Additionally, Magmortar and Electivire are version exclusives, further reinforcing the relationship.

Here's how to evolve a Magmar into Magmorter in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Trainers can evolve Magmar into Magmortar by trading this Pokemon while it's holding a Magmarizer item. There is no level requirement so Magmar can be traded any time.

The Magmarizer is a red block with what appears to be a fiery core inside and three vents on the adjacent side. Trainers can pick one up from a captured wild Magby in Shining Pearl as it's a version exclusive. However, the item is not guaranteed with every Magby, so trainers may have to catch a few in order to obtain one.

Wild Magby can be found in the Grand Underground and commonly spawn in fire-type caves such as Volcanic Cave.

Magmortar is known as the "Blast" Pokemon due to the fireball cannons on the end of its arms. Its PokeDex description notes that these blasts can be as hot as 3600 degrees F (1982 degrees C) and it takes on a "whitish hue" while attacking this way. Even its breath can sear nearby objects. This Pokemon rightfully makes its home in volcanic craters. Its PokeDex number is #467.

For context, it takes anywhere between 375-425 degrees F (190-218 degrees C) to properly roast a chicken and around 1800 degrees F (982 degrees C) to incinerate an adult human being. The volcanic habitats it lives in can be as hot as 2192 degrees F (1200 degrees C).

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
