We've come up with a comprehensive guide to how trainers can evolve their Rhydon into a Rhyperior in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Rhyhorn and its evolved form, Rhydon, were among the handful of Pokemon to receive a new evolution upon the release of Generation IV—within the Sinnoh region. Their final evolution became Rhyperior, a dual ground and rock-type that has quickly become one of the cornerstones of its type in many competitive circuits.

Here's how to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior.

Trainers can only evolve their Rhydon into a Rhyperior by trading it while it's holding a Protector. There is no level requirement but some trainers do recommend holding off on evolving it until absolutely necessary as not to miss out on any moves unique to Rhydon.

The Protector is a held item that resembles the frame of a house made out of four thin pieces of red stone or brick. In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl—as well as their original release counterparts—this item can be picked up on Route 228 in the Battle Zone.

Rhyperior is known as the "Drill" Pokemon due to the massive horn drill jutting out from between its eyes. According to its PokeDex description, "it puts rocks in holes in its palms and uses its muscles to shoot them." This is done by instantaneously expanding and contracting its muscles. Occasionally, the rocks it ejects from its palms happen to be unlucky Geodudes. Its PokeDex number is #464.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
