How to Get a Slingshot in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Knowing how to get a slingshot in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is important to know early on if you want to maximize on free items you get out of the sky.
The slingshot is primarily used to shoot balloons out of the sky. When you see the little bit of a preset box on top of your screen, you can ready your slingshot. When the balloon is overhead, release the button to fire and collect your prize.

There are two ways to get a slingshot: buying one from the Nooks, or crafting your own. To craft your own slingshot, you'll need the slingshot DIY recipe, which you also get from the Nooks.

Buying a slingshot will cost you 900 Bells, whereas the recipe will set you back only 300 bells. To craft the slingshot, you need five hardwood. To get hardwood, you'll need to get the axe. Hardwood can be obtained by hitting trees with your axe. Hardwood is the darkest variety of wood you can get from trees.
You can buy a flimsy axe for 800 Bells, or you can craft one. To craft a flimsy axe, you need the recipe from Nook's. It costs 280 bells, but you only need 5 branches and a single stone. You might find the stone while fishing, but if you have no luck you'll just have to buy the axe. Of course, at that point you might as well buy the slingshot too.
Your slingshot can actually break, but since you use it less than the other tools you won't notice its durability for a while. It's typically worthwhile to learn all the crafting recipes for your tools, as you'll always need them and you will save Bells in the long run.
