Skins in Fortnite are always a great option to have in order to customize various elements to make playing the game a little more personal to the player, though it may be a bit hard to get them for free.
How to Get Free Skins in Fortnite
Considering a multi-million dollar company like Epic Games would give out free skins for players is a bit preposterous. However, there are a number of methods that players can try in order to do so. Some require being in the right place at the right time, or simply just watching YouTube videos of their favorite content creators.
1. In-Game Events
Probably the easiest way to get skins in Fortnite is simply by playing the game. There are usually some in-game events that are themed to the holidays or even featuring a new collaboration with another franchise that will usually give out some free swag. Just like the Teen Titans Cup event that was released over a month ago, players were able to join the tournament that gave players a free Beast Boy outfit and back bling just for participating. It's probably best to wait for these events as these are the truly free way to get skins.
2. Battle Passes
Obtaining Battle Passes in the game may also be a sufficient option that can be either free or paid for, depending on how players choose to use the rewards. The latest Battle Pass allows players to use V-Bucks, completed challenges or XP in order to earn five Battle Stars, in which can be redeemed for a skin.
3. Subscription Services
Those who subscribe to services like Amazon Prime or PlayStation Plus have the chance to get free skins as part of linking their subscription or PlayStation account to Epic Games. Of course the skins will be advertised as such according to the subscription, but free skins are free skins.
There have been occasions that Fortnite allowed players to get some certain skins for free due to an error in the Shop. The latest being The Scientist skin which was glitched in the game and gave all players the challenges, even if they didn't have a Battle Pass to use with. This method is definitely not consistent and may depend from skin to skin.
5. Content Creators
Free skins are often a topic seen on popular YouTube channels, and one of the possible easier ways to get them is to follow a content creator that can probably give out a skin for free. Simply do as they say and there may be a chance that a skin could be gifted through a direct message - of course this is not guaranteed.
