Tents have made their way into Fortnite Chapter 3, but how do they work?

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1: Flipped has finally kicked off, bringing with it a number of changes and additions from a new map to new mechanics. One such feature that can now be found on the island are tents.

Tents can be found as ground loot around the map, appearing as a bedroll. Once activated, the roll springs into a full sized tent usable by just yourself or your whole squad. There are a number of elements to tents that make them a truly unique item. Below, we've detailed everything you need to know about Fortnite's newest item.

What Does a Tent Do in Fortnite?

First, it's good to know exactly what a tent does in order to use it effectively. Simply put, tents provide players with a way to stash items and rest up.

Tents allow players to stash any extra items they have to use for later rounds. Perfect for when your inventory is full but you don't want to leave any high-levelled loot just lying around. Tents come with two inventory slots by default, but you can unlock more slots with gold bars. You can essentially use a tent as an inventory expansion, as whatever you store in it will be remembered if you roll it up and redeploy it somewhere else.

Additionally, tents provide players with a chance to rest and slowly heal you. Similar to how dumpsters and hay bales work on the island, you'll be able to hide in tents and remain unseen. You won't be completely unnoticeable though, as a sound cue will play if any enemy player is close enough to hear it and paying attention. This sound cue indicates that the tent isn't empty.

Enemy players can't steal items from your tent, but they can appropriate it. Any items inside the tent will be reset, but the tent itself will be completely hijacked. Kind of like a really bad Coachella experience.

How to Use a Tent in Fortnite

To use a tent, simply deploy it from your inventory. By using your Interact button you'll have the option to either rest or manage your storage. Once inside, you can rest or wait for an unsuspecting enemy to pass by. Here, you can deliver a sneak attack to really get the jump on someone.

If you want to move your tent to a new location, simply go back to the Manage Storage tab and select "Pack Tent. " This will turn your tent into an item you can carry and redeploy elsewhere.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1: Flipped kicked off on Dec. 5, and is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Windows PCs, macOS, iOS, and Android.
