Is Fortnite Shutting Down?: The Hoax Explained
Rumors of a Fortnite shutdown first began to spread in 2018, when a screenshot surfaced appearing to show the Fortnite Twitter account tweeting about shutting the game down permanently. The tweet cited the lawsuit PUBG Corp filed against Epic Games earlier that year.
The tweet itself was riddled with errors, incorrectly capitalizing words and written in incomplete sentences. It was also never published by the official Fortnite Twitter account, issuing instead from a phony account. Furthermore, PUBG Corp settled the lawsuit in question before the end of 2018.
Fortnite remains Epic Games' biggest title by far and a singularly influential cultural force. The developer has announced no plans to shut it down.
