Over the past few years, we’ve seen popular Marvel titles, like Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Marvel keeps the ball rolling with exciting upcoming game announcements, such as Blade and Wolverine.

Fans are also hyped for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which features Captain America and Black Panther. Like most Marvel games, fans want to know if the title is canon to the Marvel cinematic universe.

Is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Canon to the MCU?

Based on two articles from Marvel, Rise of Hydra doesn’t appear canon to the MCU. Marvel’s trailer announcement and cast reveal articles constantly call the plot “an original story,” implying that it may not be part of the MCU.

The former article also states that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’s “gameplay [is] inspired by Marvel’s landmark comics, films, and television series.” The word “inspired” also implies that the upcoming title won’t fit into the MCU. Players will likely only see similar settings in the game.

Marvel hasn’t clearly announced that Rise of Hydra is canon to the MCU, so it probably isn’t.

As the title suggests, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra occurs during the WWII era. The game is a narrative-driven adventure in which Captain America and Black Panther reluctantly work together to annihilate the Nazi organization. Players will be Captain America, Black Panther, Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy in the upcoming title.

Marvel hasn’t announced any platforms for Rise of Hydra yet, but we can expect the game to be on major platforms when it’s released in 2025.
