Is the Diablo 2 Tome of Identify important?
In Diablo II: Resurrected many items that players come across will be labeled as unidentified. Unidentified items must be identified before they can be equipped by the player. Items are identified by using a Scroll of Identify, which can fill up inventory space quickly. There are two ways that players can free themselves from an inventory full of Scrolls of Identify. Scrolls of Identify are dropped randomly by enemies and can be bought from vendors in towns.
Is the Diablo 2 Tome of Identify Important?
The first way to free up some space is by investing in a Tome of Identify, which can hold up to 20 Scrolls of Identify in exchange for taking up only two inventory slots. This Tome functions similarly to the Tome of Town Portal and cannot be upgraded. The Tome of Identify can be bought from Magic Merchants in towns or found in a bookcase in the early parts of Act 1.
Alternatively, players can save a Horadrim Sage named Deckard Cain who will identify items in a player's inventory completely free. This would allow players to identify items without needing to carry any Scrolls of Identify, assuming they can speak to Deckard Cain. If players want to be able to identify equipment on the move then they must carry several Scrolls of Identify in their inventory.
