The biggest letdown for players of the latest Battlefield installment is the distinct lack of a linear single-player campaign.
Is There a Campaign for Battlefield 2042?
The short answer is no, they won't exactly have a set campaign mode.
The developers have instead taken the choice to only tell the story through the atmosphere of the game and the official Battlefield YouTube channel.
Players interested in Battlefield 2042 will be pleased to hear that the game does have a set story that many fans of the game will inevitably fall in love with.
Some fans are disappointed by this choice, with one saying "...Battlefield 2042 cut campaign to focus on multiplayer... yet still someone delivered less content than prior titles."
Another fan wrote, "Battlefield 2042 disappointed me. [It's] middling at best and charged £69.99 for not much."
Those who own the game can experience a story in Battlefield 2042, according to publisher Electronic Arts, and there is a plan to tell their planned story through the world and characters.
The games design director, Daniel Berlin, said in a statement to Eurogamer, "We’re not going to have a traditional single-player campaign this time around, but we’re going to put all that emphasis and all those resources into building depth into the multiplayer. Because that is what we do best."
More on the game's story can be accessed through the Battlefield YouTube channel by watching the Exodus short film. Feel free to check it out here.
