League of Legends developer Riot Games has pushed an emergency nerf on Janna after she had become too powerful in the current meta. Janna, the Storm's Fury, is a support champion who can immobilize, slow and deal damage to enemies while also shielding and healing allies.

In Patch 12.2, Riot Games had reworked Janna in order to balance her out and bring her back into the game. However, this rework came with a few bugs, including a problem with her Q and R when using Glacial Augment, and made Janna extremely powerful.

Smite Janna Top with Glacial Augment became a popular pick in high ELOs, doing an impressive amount of damage. Glacial Augment buffed Janna's Q and immobilized enemies, lowered their damage and slowed them. Janna left enemy champions helpless as her teammates secured the kill. This build was keeping Janna at a 58% win rate in high ELOs.

Riot responded by nerfing Janna as follows:

  • Base Move Speed: 330 ⇒ 325
  • W - Zephyr Base Bonus Move Speed:  8/9/10/11/12% ⇒ 6/7.5/9/10.5/12%
  • E - Eye of the Storm Enhanced Heal & Shield Power Duration: 5 seconds ⇒ 4 seconds (upon slowing or knocking up at least one enemy)

Riot says the hotfix is not supposed to push Janna out of top lane, but to create a more balanced champion. Similar to Sona top, there have been multiple similar situations where support enchanters were becoming a powerful meta in top lane. It remains to be seen if Riot has hit the sweet spot with this nerf, dropping Janna's power level without kicking her out of the lane.
