New England Patriots Robert Kraft and Kraft Sports Group are reportedly acquiring the twelfth and final spot in the Call of Duty League for the 2022 season, according to a report from The Esports Observer.

The twelfth CDL franchise slot has been up in the air since OpTic Gaming and Team Envy merged on Nov. 8. The merger created a new team, OpTic Texas, while Dallas Empire which was previously operated by Envy was dissolved. That left the Chicago slot vacant which OpTic previously occupied.

Kraft Sports Group currently owns and operates the Overwatch League team Boston Uprising. The move would see KSG partner with New England esports organization Oxygen Esports when it comes to operations. Oxygen fields teams in notable esports such as Rainbow Six: Siege, Valorant, Apex Legends, Halo Infinite and more.

This report would end rumors of the league starting with 11 franchise teams after two seasons of 12. A new geolocated team located in New England is likely considering each team has a major city or state located with it. This would be the third straight season in which a new team would be added to the league.

The team's roster remains unknown as well, and according to TEO more details are likely to follow.
