Rumors of a kraken Fortnite event have circulated online since at least as early as Fortnite Season 8. Those same rumors have returned in Fortnite Chapter 2, dogging the game through a massive map overhaul, but nothing yet indicates the rumors will come to fruition.

Kraken Fortnite Event Hoax Appears Online

In late October, several YouTube live streams went up claiming to show the Fortnite kraken event. Nothing happened in any of these streams.

Since then, other YouTubers have picked up on the topic as it's gained traction. A video by Fortnite influencer LazarBeam, released Monday and available above, currently stands at close to 4 million views and is the top trending YouTube video in the gaming category. The video mocks many of the streams that attempted to capitalize on the fake event.

The kraken rumors most likely began during the pirate-themed Season 9, when images of a kraken — or at least a giant squid — began appearing in Fortnite. Since then, Epic Games has given next to no fuel for the speculative fire around a kraken event.
