Opening week delivered with rookies showing out, close games, standout performances and more. Part of Madden's appeal each year is that rosters are updated to reflect players' performances throughout the season. The ones who play the best get upgraded while those who struggle fall down the totem pole.
That being said, which players are set to be upgraded after Week 1?
Madden 22 Week 1 Roster Update: 5 Players Who Should Get Upgraded
Here are our five predictions for players to get upgraded in the first roster update of Madden 22:
1. Elijah Mitchell - RB - San Francisco 49ers
Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury against the Detroit Lions to the dismay of fans. Someone had to step up in his absence, and it was the rookie Elijah Mitchell. The sixth-round pick out of Louisiana rushed for 104 yards on 19 carries with a long of 38. He also tacked on his first professional touchdown in the NFL. Not a bad debut for the rookie.
2. Derek Carr - QB - Las Vegas Raiders
Monday Night Football capped off the first week with a wild game. The Raiders defeated the Ravens in overtime with Derek Carr throwing a game-winning touchdown to Zay Jones. Carr threw for 435 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
3. Chandler Jones - OLB - Arizona Cardinals
One man garnered all of the defensive headlines on Sunday, and that was Chandler Jones. The outside linebacker netted five sacks... in just one half of football. That's a quarter of the single-season record in just two quarters of game time. An insane performance for one of the best in the game.
4. Matthew Stafford - QB - Los Angeles Rams
It was a stellar debut for Matthew Stafford with his new team as the LA Rams defeated the Chicago Bears 34-14. Stafford was 20 for 26 with 321 yards and three touchdowns.
5. Deebo Samuel - WR - San Francisco 49ers
The second 49er to be featured on the list, Deebo Samuel showed out against the Lions. He caught nine passes for 189 yards, good for second most in the first week behind Tyreek Hill. He averaged 21 yards a catch with a long of 79. He also scored one touchdown, but lost a fumble.
