Mass Effect's Legendary Mode and Classic Mode are two different ways players will be able to run through the games in the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition collection. Although the remastering going on in the collection is faithful to the original games, some important tweaks have been made to improve the experience overall. The choice between Legendary and Classic Modes for level scaling is one such tweak.

After players have completed customizing their characters, they'll find themselves at an options screen to select difficulty, auto-leveling settings, and a few other options including level scaling. Legendary Mode and Classic Mode are the two options.

Where the original Mass Effect was designed to require two playthroughs to get Shepard to the original level cap of 60 and fully upgrade their abilities. Classic Mode makes it easier to gain the experience necessary to hit 60 in a single playthrough, but Legendary Mode drops the cap to 30, making it even easier to max out.

The total number of skill points remains unchanged, so players won't miss out on anything by opting to play on Legendary Mode rather than Classic.
