Mega Charizard Y Pokemon GO: How to Get
By Jack O'Dwyer
Mega Charizard Y in Pokemon GO is finally available to trainers.
Niantic Labs recently implemented their own take on mega-evolution into Pokemon GO on Aug. 27. This feature involves collecting energy from unique raids by felling mega raid bosses as swiftly as possible. Once collected, this energy can be used to evolve a very small pool of Generation I Pokemon to unlock their mega-evolved forms.
Mega Charizard Y is part of this pool.
Mega Charizard Y Pokemon GO: How to Get
Mega Charizard has two different types of mega-evolutions: X and Y.
The quickest way to evolve Charizard into Mega Y is to enter as many raids as possible. Trainers report that it takes about six raids on average to collect the necessary energy.
Additionally, both forms of Charizard can be found in mega raids and have a chance of capture after conclusion.
There are only five Pokemon that have their mega-evolutions unlocked at the time of writing: Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Beedrill, and Pidgeot. Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur are currently being featured in raids. Beedrill can be obtained via the research quest chain "A Mega Discovery." Pidgeot is so far unconfirmed but has been found in the game files by data miners.
It should be noted that mega-evolution of any kind is a temporary condition and will only last four hours. Trainers can only have one mega-evolved Pokemon at a time. Additionally, mega-evolved Pokemon cannot be entered into the GO Battle League, but they can be used in raids and gyms.
Trainers likely can look forward to a mega-September.
