NBA 2K22's release date is in question, along with the '21-'22 NBA season, but expect 2K to keep the game's release on schedule.

Even though NBA 2K21 just released this month, barely enough time to establish hot zones and figure out the best Takeover, 2K players are already wondering when next year's game will be releasing. The hype stems from the fact that 2K22 should be the first fully next-gen title, as 2K21 is a cross-gen release.

However, 2K21 is supposed to line up with the '20-21 season, which is still without a start date and likely won't begin until January. Will the bubble and the delayed NBA season have an effect on 2K's release schedule?

NBA 2K22 Release Date?

NBA 2K22, just like the last five entries, will likely still release in September. NBA 2K games used to release in early October, only giving players a few weeks to play until the NBA season kicked off. Over the past five years, though, this date has continually been pushed up — with NBA 2K21 releasing on Sept. 4 this year.

If any 2K should have been delayed, it was 2K21. The NBA season was put on hiatus from March until late July because of the pandemic but NBA 2K21 held to its Sep. 4 release date and was released before the conclusion of the season, offseason, draft, and free agency. Typically players expect roster updates as one of the major changes in a new 2K entry, but this won't be happening until the game is in the middle of its lifespan.

NBA's schedule should normalize next year as they continue to deal with the virus and 2K will likely keep its release on schedule — considering they did this year.
