The Overwatch League 2021 has a start date, or at least a start month. While fans have known about the tentative early spring start date, the Overwatch League has narrowed it down to April. This should allow for a season with semi city-based matches later in the year. That is if the pandemic is ever under control.

Alongside the start date, the Overwatch League also revealed the new divisions and format for the upcoming season.

There will be two regional divisions, simply named East and West. There will be eight teams based in South Korea and China, competing in the East division. It will be made up of the former APAC teams and the Philadelphia Fusion and Los Angeles Valiant.

The West division will have 12 teams in North America and Europe. This will include Toronto Defiant, Atlanta Reign, Boston Uprising, Dallas Fuel, Houston Outlaws, Florida Mayhem, London Spitfire, Los Angeles Gladiators, Paris Eternal, San Francisco Shock, Vancouver Titans, and Washington Justice.

The format has changed, focusing on standalone tournaments. There will still be regular games, but they will be to qualify for these tournaments. The full season will release at BlizzConline on Feb. 19 and 20.
