Overwatch Loot Box Odds: What Are They?

Overwatch loot box odds were opaque for the first year of the game's public existence. Although Blizzard has shed some light on the odds players have of unboxing certain item tiers, there's still much we don't know.

Overwatch Loot Box Odds: What Are They?
In July 2017, Blizzard revealed the Overwatch loot box drop rates in South Korea. The company later confirmed those numbers were accurate across all Overwatch regions.
In each Overwatch loot box, players receive four items. At least one of those four items is guaranteed to be a rare or better item. Here are the other stats Blizzard released about its Overwatch loot boxes:
- An Epic item is included in about 18.5% of all boxes
- A Legendary item is included in about 7.5% of all boxes
- A Rare Victory Pose is included in about 23% of all boxes
- A Rare Skin is included in about 30% of all boxes
- A Rare Player Icon is included about 48% of all boxes
As recently as January 2018, Blizzard confirmed that drop rates had not changed.
Though these numbers are helpful, they don't provide a complete picture of loot box odds. The chances of getting any individual item in an Overwatch loot box remains unknown.
Activision Blizzard joined Wednesday an industry-wide agreement to disclose loot box odds on all new games. The exact standards of that agreement — which details will be divulged and which won't, whether or not games published before the agreement will be included — remain unclear. But it seems possible that at some point, full Overwatch loot box odds will be revealed to the public. Stay tuned!
