In celebration of the Season of Alola coming to a close, Niantic announced that it will be hosting an Alola to Alola event in Pokémon GO to invite players to embark on a branching Special Research story that offers different tasks and rewards based on the path they choose.

As teased in the blog post, Niantic is looking to go all out to close the Season of Alola out in style, with the aforementioned Special Research story, Collection Challenge, Raids and more. Here's a breakdown of the Alola to Alola event coming soon to Pokémon GO.

The Alola to Alola event will start on May 25 at 10 a.m. local time and end on May 31 at 8 p.m. local time.

The star of the show here appears to be the End-of-Season Special Research: Alola to Alola feature, which invites players to complete all four of the event's exclusive Special Research stories by June 1 at 9:59 a.m. local time to unlock a bonus end-of-Season Special Research story:

  • Special Research: Alola to Alola – Melemele Island path
  • Special Research: Alola to Alola – Akala Island path
  • Special Research: Alola to Alola – Ula’ula Island path
  • Special Research: Alola to Alola – Poni Island path

For those who are able to complete the task, tickets to access the end-of-Season Special Research story and its additional rewards will be available in the shop for $4.99.

"Reminisce about your favorite island in the Alola region with this branching Special Research story that lets you pick between Melemele Island," the Niantic blog post reads, "Akala Island, Ula’Ula Island and Poni Island, and enjoy different tasks and rewards based on your selection!"

There are also several other features set to take place during this time, including an Alolan-themed Collection Challenge, which, once completed, makes progress toward players' Elite Collector medal and nets them 15,000 XP, 15 Ultra Balls and an encounter with Rockruff.

Players will also be able to evolve Cubone during the event to get an Alolan Marowak that knows the Charged Attack Shadow Bone.

The Alola to Alola event will also see increased spawns of Alolan Rattata, Cubone, Rowlet, Litten, Popplio, Pikipek and Yungoos. Niantic has completely rearranged the 7 k.m. egg tier to include Dewpider, Alolan Meowth, Alolan Sandshrew and more. Field Research tasks are set to reward encounters with Rowlet, Litten, Popplio, Pikipek and Yungoos.

Additionally, Alolan Pokemon will be appearing in raids of each tier, including:

  • One-star: Alolan Rattata, Alolan Geodude, Alolan Diglett, Alolan Grimer and Rockruff
  • Three-star: Alolan Raichu, Alolan Exeggutor and Alolan Marowak
  • Five-star: Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu and Tapu Fini
