Pokémon Go and Pokémon Sword and Shield may be compatible according to rumors.
The rumors are in large part caused by a data mine discovered in the latest Pokémon Go patch that refers to something called "koala_settings."
Pokémon Go and Sword and Shield May Be Compatible
Twitter user @Chrales, who discovered the data mine, theorized that koala might be the codename for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Game Freak, the developer of the mainline Pokémon games, has frequently codenamed its games after elements of nature.
The most recent release, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, used the codename beluga. That codename appears in Pokémon Go in sections concerning its compatibility with those games.
Nintendo has yet to announce plans to create crossover between Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Go.
Sword and Shield are set to release some time in late 2019.
