Pokémon GO Buddy Up! event information has been revealed by Niantic Labs. Beginning April 21, Pokémon GO will be hosting a special event entirely focused on spending time with your buddy Pokémon, providing various bonuses for doing so along the way. The event will run from Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 a.m. thru Monday, April 27 at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Illumise and Volbeat will be available around the world during the event, and as a bonus, Trainers will be able to encounter Shiny Illumise as well as Shiny Volbeat. Also note that Woobat will be encountered in the wild for the first time during this event.

Pokémon GO Buddy Up! Event Information

The Buddy Up! event also includes increased encounter rates for Alolan Meowth, Chansey, Eevee, Feebas, Lillipup, and Joltik - great for completeing a collection for completionists or just to round out your Pokédex. These Pokémon will also be hatching from 5km eggs in your vicinity.

Other bonuses and perks to enjoy during the event include:

  • Exclusive Field Research tasks that reward Stardust and encounters with Alolan Meowth, Volbeat, Illumise, and Woobat
  • Buddy Pokémon will an increased drop rate of items and souvenirs
  • The distance to earn Buddy Candy and hearts with your buddy will be halved
  • It’ll be easier for your buddy to be excited
  • Feed your buddy Berries and Poffins, and it’ll join you on the map for twice as long
  • Earn double XP for evolving Pokémon (including your Buddy)
