The uber-popular mobile offering Pokemon GO has exceeded $3.6 billion in lifetime revenue since it launched four years ago, according to data from SensorTower.

Niantic's blockbuster title was originally released July 6, 2016, setting the standard for location-based gameplay and quickly generating insane amounts of revenue worldwide. Though Pokemon GO is free-to-play, it offers optional items which players can choose to spend money on.

The most lucrative playerbase for Niantic appears to be Americans, as $1.3 billion of the revenue generated was from the United States. Japan and Germany account for the next highest percentages of player spending in the game.

Though it has been four years, the fandom surrounding Pokemon GO doesn't seem to have dissipated, and in fact, even resulted in Niantic having to alter the game's functionality earlier this year so that players could still play while under stay-at-home orders. Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will also take place virtually this year in order to satiate fans while keeping the event safe during the ongoing Coranvirus pandemic.
