The once unimaginable: the open-world style akin to Breath of the Wild Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to release on Jan. 28, 2022.
Pokemon Legends Arceus Release Date Announced
The limits that Breath of the Wild broke in terms of series expectations and sheer enjoyability is something many Pokemon fans want from Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It's pretty unfair to compare a game that hasn't even come out yet to one of Nintendo's best releases in the last decade, but this is what the Internet does.
Regardless, even if the gameplay shown off in the trailer seemed a little shoddy at moments, the setting and unique presentation of this game are where it needs to shine. The setting already seems really unique, taking place in the Sinnoh region with a feudal Japan aesthetic. I love that Pokeballs reflect the technology of the time period, being mechanically powered and wooden. The presentation as well is sure to make it stand out from other Pokemon titles, cutting out traditional Pokemon tropes like a small cutscene when engaging in any battle.
Pokemon Legends follows up the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl nicely, coming out two months after, and still keeping in theme with being in Sinnoh.
The idea of a Pokemon Legends series is exciting, allowing Nintendo and Game Freak to break out of the same tried and true formula of the main-series games and the remakes. If Pokemon Legends: Arceus ends up doing well and living up to or exceeding expectations, I would love to see what other settings the series could explore. Seeing a Nintendo Switch-ready version of Unova, for example, would be insane.
No matter what the series could have in store, Pokemon Legends: Areceus
