Pokémon Scarlet and Violet developers Game Freak have revealed a new move: Shed Tail. This is a new move that utilizes the substitution ability seen in previous Pokémon titles.

The ninth generation of Pokémon will take place in the brand-new Paldea region and, as always, see the introduction of new Pokémon and characters. Game Freak has already revealed plenty of elements coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet including some of the new Pokémon as well as the player's new rival: Nemona. On top of the usual announcements of the new Pokémon, Game Freak has also showed off one of the moves coming to the new games, Shed Tail.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Shed Tail Revealed

Shed Tail is one of the new moves coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike most moves, Shed Tail will not deal any damage. According to Bulbapedia,

"Shed Tail creates a substitute using half of the user's HP, then switches the user out. The Pokémon that switches in will then have the substitute."

This move will belong to Cyclizar, a Dragon and Normal type Pokémon new with the introduction of the ninth generation. Shed Tail is similar to the move Substitute except it seems like it will be a safer option. Part of its utility will come from being able to giving the substitute to any of your other Pokémon rather than just restricting it to Cyclizar. Due to the relative complexity of the move, it will most likely see the most use through professional play rather than from the average player.

Unfortunately, no other information such as the type of the move has been released as of yet.
