The Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion pass becomes available for pre-purchase Thursday, Nintendo announced in a Direct broadcast the same day.
The expansion pass entitles buyers to both DLC packs Nintendo announced in the Direct. Nintendo will release the first of the two, The Isle of Armor, in June 2020. The second, The Crown Tundra, will go live in fall 2020.
Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Announced During Direct
The two DLC packs will differ according to which version of the base game a player owns. For instance, in Isle of Armor, the player's rival will be Klara if they are playing Pokémon Sword. If they are playing Pokémon Shield, their rival will be Avery.
Isle of Armor focuses on the theme of growth, while Crown Tundra focuses on exploration. More than 200 Pokémon will return in the DLC packs.
Pre-purchasing the expansion pass will earn players exclusive in-game clothing: an all-white outfit with Pikachu on the front of the shirt.
The expansion pass will sell for $29.99.
