Nintendo announced Pokémon Sword and Shield's first expansion, The Isle of Armor, during its Direct broadcast Thursday. The DLC pack is expected to arrive in June 2020.

Pokémon Sword and Shield The Isle of Armor DLC Price, Release Date

The Isle of Armor is the main-line Pokémon series's first expansion — developer Game Freak typically releases new, expanded games rather than expansions for previously released ones.

Isle of Armor allows players to explore new parts of the Galar region, complete with new gyms, accessories, Gigantamax transformations and a greater pool of Pokémon. The expansion adds more than 200 Pokémon in a mixture of returning creatures and new creations, including new legendary Pokémon.

A free update released alongside the expansion will make the new Pokémon available to players who don't buy the expansion.

The Isle of Armor continues Sword and Shield's story, sending players to train with Leon's mentor Mustard. Further details have yet to be released.

The Isle of Armor will be followed by a second expansion titled The Crown Tundra, set for a fall 2020 release. Players can buy both DLC packs at once with the $30 expansion pass.
