The Kanto trio is officially complete with the release of turtle-based water-type, Blastoise, in Pokemon UNITE.

Blastoise was one of the original two Pokemon teased for release in Pokemon Unite at the very beginning of the month. It was also arguably the most anticipated addition, according to players, as their disappointment appeared to compound after watching both Gardevoir and the surprise reveal, Blissey, make their way to the roster ahead of it. Now, however, after weeks of waiting, Blastoise's release date has finally been revealed.

Blastoise Release Date in Pokemon UNITE

Blastoise will be available to play starting on Wednesday, Sept. 1. While the developers have yet to disclose its entire kit, we do have some expectations based on its teaser trailer released earlier today, Wednesday, Aug. 25.

According to the trailer, Blastoise will likely be a ranged attacker—not unlike Charizard and Venusaur. Whether it also ends up with a "carry" playstyle similar to Charmander and Bulbasaur remains to be seen. Blastoise also appears to be the slowest of the three at the time of writing.

We know its kit contains the dash and crowd control move, Surf, as well as a hydro cannon attack called "Hydro Typhoon"—though whether this is its ultimate "Unite Move" or not is unclear. Regardless, the Pokemon makes good use of the cannons equipped to its shell.

Speaking of, the trailer also features an AoE like shell spin attack that deals damage as Blastoise rapidly spins inside its shell. Whether this has a set path or can be controlled is also unclear.

Blastoise's Unite Move takes advantage of both of these mechanics. It spins in a circle, firing massive jets of water from its hydro cannons in every direction to deal damage to all Pokemon nearby. This could be a great card to keep tucked up a player's sleeve should they find themselves surrounded—and a tip-off that opponents should be keeping track of their enemy Blastoise's ultimate charge.

With the Kanto starter set done, could Galar's set be next? After all, we already have Cinderace.
