Players can evolve Gastly into Haunter after reaching level 5, and then Gastly can transform into Gengar at level 9.

Gengar's best build includes Sludge Bomb and Hex. Sludge Bomb throws sludge into a certain location and poisons another Pokemon. Hex lets Gengar become invisible for a particular time and inflicts damage once the user reappears.

Players should give Gengar Wise Glasses, Sp. Attack Specs, or a Float Stone as a held item. These items can boost Gengar's attacks. It's also recommended to use a Potion during a battle in order to revive Gengar's health.
