PUBG Corp to Disable Ping-Based Matchmaking Following Bug

A bug causing mismatches has forced PUBG Corp to disable ping-based matchmaking on consoles, switching matchmaking to a region-based system.
Following player reports indicating the system was incorrectly sorting them onto the wrong servers, PUBG Corp investigated and discovered bugs had negatively affected ping calculation. Rather than fix the bugs and retain the ping-based matchmaking system, PUBG Corp has elected to determine servers by region rather than individual ping.

PUBG Corp has yet to announce a date for the change to be enacted. The developer will release further details in the future as they become finalized.
Ping-based matchmaking has run into several stumbling blocks since its implementation. North American PC players experienced problems with the system in July 2018. More recently, PUBG Xbox players in Oceania reported being sorted onto several different servers in August.
PUBG's next update, Update 5.1, is scheduled to hit live console servers Oct. 29.
