Rarest Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been released for around two months as of right now, and these games have revolutionized the main series Pokémon gameplay experience.

Tera raids, mass outbreaks, an open-world setting and wild Pokémon behavior have changed the Pokémon formula in ways that would be unexpected only a few games ago. Scarlet and Violet have included Pokémon that were able to be found in every game preceding it.

Players that have been playing the game for significant periods of time, or even those just looking for some of their new or old favorites will have seen that some Pokémon are a lot harder to come by then others. While the list of "rare" Pokémon in this game may be subjective and go on for a while, we've compiled some of the rarest.

Rarest Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

In no particular order, these are five of some of the rarest Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet:

1. Aqua/Blaze Breed Paldean Tauros

These new Tauros forms have proven very difficult to encounter because, like many other Pokémon on this list, they will be encounterable in very limited spaces. What makes getting these two specific forms more difficult to come by as opposed to the normal Tauros form is that these Pokémon will only spawn one in a group of Paldean Tauros.

2. Iron Valiant/Roaring Moon

Iron Valiant (Violet-exclusive) and Roaring Moon (Scarlet-exclusive) are pseudo-legendary paradox Pokémon that only spawn in a cave off the beaten path in the Great Crater of Paldea. Only one will spawn and if that one is defeated or caught, it will take a while before another spawns.

3. Spiritomb

This Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon has been hard to encounter in every game it has appeared in, but in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet there are very few set locations in which a Spiritomb will spawn in. Even then, only one will spawn in that area until they respawn, which can take what feels like an eternity.

4. Dusk Form Lycanroc

Dusk Form Lycanroc, one of the three Lycanroc forms available as an evolution to Rockruff, is also the most distinct form as it is only available to be encountered during dusk in North Province (Area One). This window of time is very specific and it can be difficult to reach this area within this time frame with the in-game clock.

5. Family of Three Maushold

Maushold is a new Normal-type Pokémon that evolves from Tandemaus upon reaching level 25. It can evolve into either the Family of Four or Family of Three variations and players won't know which form they will get until their Tandemaus evolves. The Family of Four form is much more statistically likely to get, with the Family of Three form having a 1/100 chance of being the one that player gets when they evolve their Tandemaus!

There are many other Pokémon that could be included on this list, but playing through the game will show a lot of Pokémon are rare for some and much more common for others.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were released Nov. 18.
