Respawn Entertainment introduced skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) for Apex Legends and it hasn't gone over well. Most games have some type of algorithm to figure how many points players earn or lose when they play a competitive match. It calculates the skill in the match and who the players faced.

It can be bothersome as the matchmaking system will place you in a much more difficult tier compared to your actual ranking causing you to face high-level players.

Respawn developer, Josh Medina, replied to a tweet about how SBMM may be turned off or broken. He subtly posted some eye emojis, teasing the community that this actually may be a thing.

From multiple Reddit posts and social media outcries from players, Respawn Entertainment is probably looking to make changes to the matchmaking system.
