Respawn Entertainment, developers of Apex Legends, confirmed that crossplay won’t occur between PC and console players in an attempt to balance the game.
Apex Legends has boomed onto the scene since its release early last year. Crossplay was wanted by many players, so that friends could play together but many believe PC users have the advantage. Advantages include, but not limited to, more freedom of movement or camera, faster reaction times, key bindings and ability to switch weapons faster.
Respawn Entertainment Confirm No Crossplay Between PC and Console
Apex Legends software engineer, Jake Smullin, revealed on TikTok that the Respawn Entertainment team has acknowledged the multiple complaints and worries from fans about PC users in console matches.
Smullin confirms that there is “no chance” PC and console users will be matched together unless a party includes a PC player. The software engineer reveals that instead of worrying about crossplay, fans and players should instead be excited as more gaming opportunities and experiences will be coming.
Apex Legends crossplay was announced at the 2020 EA Play event last month but no specific date was announced alongside the crossplay announcement. “This Fall” is the only timeframe players have in mind and has been keeping fans in excitement and anticipation.
This release date is also around the expected date for the long-awaited release on Nintendo Switch and Steam. Respawn also revealed exclusive Steam player skins, with Switch players still waiting for their own exclusive skins. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Respawn did release a Switch exclusive skin as Fortnite has done this multiple times already.
