Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft are collaborating on a new open-world Star Wars game. Ubisoft is known for massive open-world game series such as Assassins' Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs, giving fans a lot to be excited about. No details on the game have been revealed, but there are a number of routes Ubisoft could go to appease the Star Wars fanbase.
Star Wars Ubisoft: 5 Games Fans Want
A Mandalorian Game
Without question, The Mandalorian is the most popular piece of Star Wars media out right now. The recently concluded Season 2 was met with rave reviews and has injected new life into Disney's Star Wars universe. An open-world game featuring Mando as a playable character sounds like a genius idea. The game could feature Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) as an assistive character similar to Atreus in God of War. While the main story would probably have to tie into the show somehow, an ample amount of side missions could give Mando a chance to show off his bounty-hunting expertise.
Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Game
Given that a highly anticipated series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin is coming to Disney+, it would make sense if Lucasfilm games wanted the characters to star in their upcoming game. Rather than explore Obi-Wan's adventures following Order 66 as the series will do, a game focusing on the training of his padawan Anakin Skywalker would be of equal interest. Rather than relegate Anakin to an assistive character, the game could feature differing missions where either Anakin or Obi-Wan are playable. Apart from lightsaber-wielding gameplay, fans would be excited to experience the stories of Anakin's padawan training that are rarely told.
A Poe Dameron Game
One interesting idea for a Star Wars open-world adventure would be to have it set in open space rather than a terrestrial planet. A game centered around Poe Dameron would give players the feeling of being the best pilot in the Galaxy. The game could feature a unique method of open-world space travel never before experienced. Combat could be simplified like that of the Star Fox games or have more complex mechanics. The story would do well to explore Poe's life before the events of The Force Awakens, beginning when he's a member of the Spice Runners of Kijimi.
Knights of the Old Republic 3
Rather than backpack off Star War's most recent successes, Ubisoft could look to revive arguably the most popular Star Wars video game series ever. The third installment to BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic series was canceled in 2004 but the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic served as a spiritual successor. A revived story-driven open-world KOTOR RPG would arguably be the most anticipated release of the year. It would also serve well to implement Star Wars: The Old Republic's character creation and class system to let players carve out their own unique legacy in the Galaxy.
The Force Unleashed III
Similar to KOTOR, The Force Unleashed is another classic series of Star Wars games that fans would be excited to see revived. The first two Force Unleased were story-driven RPG games that featured Darth Vader's apprentice, Starkiller, as the playable protagonist. For a new Force Unleased, I think the best approach would be to explore Kylo Ren's apprenticeship with Supreme Leader Snoke. It could follow his transition from Ben Solo to a Sith Lord, as well as include missions where he leads the Knights of Ren. An open-world game with Kylo Ren as the playable character would surely have fans buzzing.
