Teamfight Tactics Best Comps: How to Build a Winning Team

Teamfight Tactics team comps are difficult to nail down, but they're critical to figure out if you want to score top four in most of your games. Riot Games' take on auto chess uses different synergies and abilities than the ones found in auto chess or Dota Underlords.

First things first: before you start worrying too much about team compositions, you should figure out the basics of the game and different Origins and Classes, as well as their synergy bonuses. You can read about the game's basics on Riot's own guide to Teamfight Tactics, and we suggest that you check out our other tips before launching into this guide.

Teamfight Tactics Team Comps Guide

For our purposes, we want to distinguish between "build around me" synergies, which we'll call Major Synergies, and less impactful synergies, which we'll call Minor Synergies. The distinction between these two isn't the number of units — it's about the degree of the benefit of each synergy.

Major Synergies are your win conditions. They give you ways to kill your enemy's champions quickly. The Imperial Origin and the Assassin Class are good Major Synergies to build around.

Minor Synergies usually serve to defend your win conditions or hinder the enemy win conditions. The Yordle and Demon Origins are good examples of this.

With this in mind, you can start to prioritize champions based on your win conditions. Tristana has the Gunslinger Class and Yordle Origin, so if you want to build around her, you need to prioritize getting Gunslingers over other units, since it's a Major Synergy. If you can get the Yordle bonus, it will help keep Tristana alive, but the Yordle synergy is pretty weak against Sorcerers and other champions that use spells for damage, so it isn't as high of a priority. It's a good Minor Synergy to have, but other Minor Synergies that bolster your front line might be better.

In general, you should aim to have one or two Major Synergies and two or three Minor Synergies, but don't hesitate to drop a Minor Synergy if it lets you use a high level champion with a strong utility spell, like Sejuani.
